Announced today by MGM via The Hollywood Reporter, Michael B. Jordan will be starring in and directing Creed III. Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad will both be back as well but there is no word on Sylvester Stallone in the release.
Jordan had this to say about the release: “Directing has always been an aspiration, but the timing had to be right. Creed III is that moment — a time in my life where I’ve grown more sure of who I am, holding agency in my own story, maturing personally, growing professionally, and learning from the Greats like Ryan Coogler, most recently Denzel Washington, and other top tier directors I respect. All of which sets the table for this moment.”
Okay, no mention of Stallone there. I’ve a queasy feeling deep down in my chochkas.
Why It’s Concerning
Look, I understand if they are going to kill off Rocky Balboa. Stallone has other things he’s working on and it’s the exact point in the franchise they killed off Rocky’s trainer, Mick. But you need to atleast have him in the film. You can’t have the guy the series is based off die off screen like it’s no big deal when the actor is right here, available to make it happen.
Stallone is working, has just wrapped up filming The Samaritan and has most recently been seen working on the Rocky IV director’s cut edit. His character was in poor health in both the Creed films, scaring us to death that they might kill of the character as motivation. None the less, he was important to both films, nearly winning an Oscar for best supporting actor with Creed. Not to mention, you know….he’s the guy the series is based on.
To not even mention Stallone in the release feels off as a whole. That being said, if he is included. I’m excited for the film. Both Creed films to date have been great. How are you feeling about this? Comment below, let us know!
