George Lucas Says He Wanted More Say In The Last Three STAR WARS Movies
Despite how you may feel about the latest iterations of Star Wars since Disney took over at the helm, I think it's fair to assess that the last three films didn't live up to the first three films.
Now, the nougat in the middle (helmed by Lucas) wasn't it, either. Jar from it. See what I did there? Jar from it? Jar Jar Binks? I'm a father. I know what I'm doing.
Lucas, via an excerpt from upcoming book Star Wars Archives (via ScreenCrush.com) recently commented on selling the rights and his disappointment with wanting more power, saying:
I’ve spent my life making Star Wars — 40 years — and giving it up was very, very painful. But it was the right thing to do. I thought I was going to have a bit more to say about the next three because I’d already started them, but they decided they wanted to do something else.
Could be this is either Lucas purposefully distancing himself from the blame for these last three films or genuinely expressing disappointment he wasn't more involved. Lucas had started work on these properties but apparently Disney went their own way with them. I wonder if he'd like to direct another one someday?
Either way, it poses the question......do you think the last three films would have been better or worse off with more input from Lucas? Say what you want about the nougat three, they were at least Lucas' original vision.
These last three weren't horrible and at some points were exciting action movie goodness. But they didn't feel original by any stretch of the imagination. They all had that shadow of pulling from something that had been done better before and with more heart. At least in my opinion. What do you think? We put a poll up on our Twitter.
