HALLOWEEN KILLS Update: Alyson, Not Laurie Is The Focal Point & The Status of HALLOWEEN ENDS!
In their latest issue, Total Film interviews 'Halloween Kills' director David Gordon Green (shout out to our buddy Caleb Cascio for the heads up) and digs up some interesting tid bits about both films.
Apparently Laurie will spend most of 'Kills' in the hospital and is more the "emotional core" of the film as it is Allyson (Andi Matichack) who takes over the starring role. Bloodthirsty for revenge over what Michael Myers (Goddamn you, Michael!) has done to her family. Green said:
"When we met (Allyson) she was a very relatable, lovely girl next door type of character. Allyson here, just hours later....she is ignited. She is in some ways, leading the charge and is one of the more bloodthirsty in the group."
I'm fascinated to see if Laurie actually survives 'Halloween Kills'. Her death could be the rallying cry that really ignites Haddonfield and sets up a final chapter of this (technically four movie) trilogy that really lets Gordon Green and Co put their own stamp on the Halloween franchise.
Especially if we're apparently making Matichak (deservedly so, she was great in 'Halloween') the main star of the film. This must be what that noticeable zoom shot of Allyson holding the bloody knife was all about at the end of 'Halloween'.
Speaking of 'Halloween Ends', Gordon Green updated that they have used the quarantine to complete the script and that they are hoping to shoot this Fall as previously planned. On the differences between 'Kills' and 'Ends' Green said:
"It's a very different movie than Kills and both Halloweens. The script feels very fun. For me, it was essential to say, 'Here's a conclusive episode to my trilogy.' I'm trying to bring closure to my 'Laurie Strode versus Michael Myers' storytelling.'"
Make no mistake whatever happens to Laurie and Michael in 'Halloween Kills', 'Halloween Ends' certaintly sounds like it's going to have the kind of finality that lives up to its name.
We know that no-one is allowed to kill Michael off forever as it is an unwritten rule among the Akkad family that Michael is never to really die. Now, that doesn't mean that they can't 'James Bond' this franchise and have a new team come in a few years after 'Ends' to tell their own artistic take on the story. I think it's safe to say that this is the Laurie characters last hurrah. The story has been told so many times at this point that if you aren't going to have Jamie Lee Curtis back in the role, it would serve interesting to the franchise to see what else there is for Michael Myers to do.
Just stay away from Busta Rhymes, Michael.
