There's Still Life Left In LETHAL WEAPON 5 According To Danny Glover
A little while back LETHAL WEAPON 5 was brought (surprisingly) as being in development. Even more surprising that it wouldn't be a reboot TV show starring a pony tailed douchebag but rather an actual LETHAL WEAPON 5 starring Mel Gibson, Danny Glover and directed by Richard Donner who is currently ninety years old. (By the way, nothing against ponytail dudes it's when you combine the ponytail with doucheyness that is the problem. Google LETHAL WEAPON TV show douchebag and you'll see what I mean)
Even more, double, triple scoop surprising is that according to Danny Glover in an interview with Variety, LETHAL WEAPON 5 is still alive. It might be as close to death as Riggs at the end of LETHAL WEAPON 2 smoking a cigarette with multiple bullet holes in him but ALIVE.. Here's what Glover said:
There has been a conversation about that in January. I don’t want to give away the plot on the script that I read, but I found the plot had very strong relevance to some of things that are happening today. I can say that. But that was in January. History changes so fast. But yes, there’s been talk about it. There is something of a plan.
When asked if he would do the film and if he liked the script, Glover responded:
Yes, I liked it. I can only tell you, if it does happen, there is something extraordinary in it. If “Lethal Weapon” gives us some sort of contribution to understanding a little bit more…It would be interesting to do. It would be interesting to see how we take this within the political framework we are in; the economic framework that we are in. And especially that framework as opposed to the communities that have been affected by the kind of police violence, the kind of police standards, and the power that they exert as well. And what would be interesting from that vantage point is what that attempt could be like at this particular moment.
I'm going to be honest with you guys. I'd be shocked as shit if this movie ever exists with the original three amigos. I'm a huge LETHAL WEAPON fan, I love all four films and the original is my favorite film of all time. I grew up pretending to be Riggs playing guns outside my house. That being said, it's kind of hard for me to imagine Murtaugh running around escaping explosions at this point in his career and Donner hasn't made a film in fourteen years.
As far as how timely the script could be with everything going on in the world? It sounds like that could be the one thing that would push this thing forward into actually happening. We'll see. Either way, there's still four amazing LETHAL WEAPON films to watch. Check out my review for Mel Gibson's latest film FORCE OF NATURE if you want to see what he's up to lately but other than that have yourselves a great goddamn fourth of July!
