This Is Real: Rob Gronkowski Is About To Sign With WWE

There's one thing I know about my light dabbling in creating wrestling content over the past year or so, and that's that wrestling fans are opinionated as fuck. Maybe even more so than 'Halloween' fans and that's saying A LOT. So, I have to know what you all think about this wherever it gets posted (Facebook, Twitter, wherever).

According to WWE's Backstage Rob Gronkowski is close to a deal with the WWE. Yeah, to wrestle.

On the surface, this makes a lot of sense. Then in a lot of other ways it makes no sense at all. Gronk has always been a frat boy in a football uniform. Not saying that's a good or bad thing. Just saying, it's the truth.

He's just as famous for taking off his shirt and jumping up and down with glow sticks in night clubs as he is playing football. Thing is he was really, really good at football. He retired early despite being looked at as one of the greatest TE's of all time because of his repeated back injuries. As we all are well aware, the safest place to be when you have a back injury is in an arena being jacknived, speared, lion tamed and diamond cutted onto a wrestling canvas and or tables by dudes bigger than you who have spent their lives hurting themselves. What is this guy, Doc Holliday from 'Tombstone'?

On the positive side of things, he has an over the top personality that works just dandy for a wrestling persona. Personally, the dude gets on my nerves but people do gravitate towards him for a reason and I'm sure there's a crowd for him in the WWE.

That being said, is this a legit effort or a cheap marketing ploy with no substance? Celebrity wrestlers have come and gone from wrestling with varying results. Gronk has made appearances before in the ring but is on record as saying he's not interested in an entire career, either. From the words of the man himself (per ESPN):

"With wrestling, I don't feel like I would be a full-time wrestler, but there is one thing I'm down for and that's to do one crazy match. Practice it for a little bit, go out there - like in a Royal Rumble - go out there, I got my friend in WWE, practice it and do a full-on WWE match. I'm not saying when, maybe five years. I got the rest of my life to do that. I've always dreamed about doing that, just one time, going in there and going full-out. That may be a possibility, one time, down the road."

So, what's with this contract? Call me crazy but with the WWE already dealing with the Goldberg backlash and the constant need to bring back wrestlers whose prime has passed, rather than developing their young talent another flash in the pan is the last thing fans want right now.

Looks like another reason to switch over to AEW. But that's what you wrestling fans are here for. Tell me what you think! Also if you want that dope ass shirt above here's a link for it. Might be a daisy and get one for myself.

Here's a video of us pissing off a bunch of people when we reacted to Jericho's band FOZZY even though we liked the damn song:
